Konami recently revealed that the remake of the original Metal Gear Solid 1 will be significantly more challenging than the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, translated by Genki on X/Twitter, Metal Gear Solid series producer Noriaki Okamura suggested that although the possibility of other remakes exists, fans shouldn’t expect them to arrive anytime soon.

This is due to the fact that remaking the original Metal Gear Solid, along with the first two Metal Gear games for the MSX2 and Nintendo Entertainment System, would need the development of numerous new parts. This is in contrast to the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which was already renamed Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

“For the time being, I think we should think about it after we finish making this work. For example, if we were to create a new remake of the original Metal Gear Solid or Metal Gear 1 and 2, there would inevitably be some aspects that would not work with the same methodology as MGSΔ, including the redesign of the level design. As a result, there are many parts that have to be created anew,” said Okamura according to the Bing Translation of the Famitsu article.

About the future of the franchise, they are thinking if it’s acceptable “to make the next game in the series but they will think about the next steps for the series after getting feedback for Metal Gear Solid Delta.”

“Before everyone who was involved in the original is gone, we need to create a path to preserve the Metal Gear series for 10 or 50 years into the future. I think this is something we have to do.”

Since Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima left Konami after almost 30 years to start his own studio Kojima Productions, the franchise has not seen any new titles. Okamura will see how people react to Metal Gear Solid Delta before making any further decisions.

No release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has been announced yet.

Metal Gear Solid series Producer Noriaki Okamura says if they were to remake MGS1 or Metal Gear 1/2 they couldn’t do it in the same way as MGS Delta and they would have to create many new parts.
