According to sources from Forbes and IGN, the delay of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox is due to an exclusivity agreement between Sony and Game Science, rather than technical issues.
A statement from Spanish leaker eXtas1s on August 25 (archive) suggested that a technical issue, specifically a memory leak causing significant crashes, was affecting the Xbox launch. “At Gamescom, I spoke with people involved with Xbox and developers who informed me about a technical issue that is affecting the launch of “Black Myth: Wukong” on Xbox consoles.”
However, an IGN source described these rumors by eXtas1s as “inaccurate.”
Game Science stated (archive | screenshot) on June 8 that they were optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet their quality standards, which is why it wasn’t planning a simultaneous release with other platforms.
A Microsoft spokesperson mentioned they couldn’t comment on deals made by their partners with other platform holders but emphasized their focus on making Xbox the best platform for gamers. “We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”
Forbes Senior Contributor Paul Tassi, the author of the Forbes article, shared part of the IGN article about the topic on X, formerly Twitter (archive | screenshot).
