In an unexpected twist, Krafton, the renowned publisher of the hit game PUBG, has acquired Tango Gameworks, the creative force behind acclaimed titles such as The Evil Within and Hi-Fi Rush, after facing closure earlier this year following an announcement from Microsoft. Tango Gameworks marks Krafton’s inaugural venture into the Japanese gaming industry.
This announcement comes a few months after Microsoft announced its plan to shut down the Japanese developer even after its critical success with Hi-Fi Rush. With the purchase of Tango Gameworks, Krafton will also own the Hi-Fi Rush franchise.
“As part of this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects,” says the press releae. “KRAFTON intends to support the Tango Gameworks team to continue its commitment to innovation and delivering fresh and exciting experiences for fans. There will be no impact on the existing game catalog of The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the original Hi-Fi RUSH game.”
Besides PUBG Studios and Tango Gameworks, South-Korean publisher Krafton also currently owns Bluehole Studio, Striking Distance Studios, RisingWings, Dreamotion Inc., Thingsflow, Unknown Worlds Entertainment, 5minlab Corporation, and Neon Giant.
