The Nintendo Switch becomes the third best-selling console of all time

The Nintendo Switch has become the third best-selling video game console of all time. Via its financial data of dedicated video game sales units, Nintendo announced it has sold 122.55 million units of Nintendo Switch consoles.

With the new data, the Switch has surpassed the Game Boy (with 118.69 million units sold) and the PlayStation 4 (with 117 million units sold). The Nintendo Switch is also first among Nintendo consoles in software sales with 994.30 million units sold.

The information released is current as of December 31, 2022.

The Nintendo Switch is still behind the PlayStation 2 with 155 million units sold and the Nintendo DS with 154 million units sold in hardware sales.

Will the Nintendo Switch be able to reach the top spot in hardware sales? The Switch still has a few more top games coming this year such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4 and Metroid Prime 4.
