Konami introduced the return of its Silent Hill franchise to long-time fans of the horror game franchise.
The Silent Hill Transmission started today with the announcement of Silent Hill 2 coming to PlayStation 5 and Windows PC (via Steam). The remake of the classic game is being developed by Bloober Team and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The trailer shows an over-the-shoulder camera view “to immerse players even deeper into the game, make them feel like they are a part of this unreal world, and deliver them a more visceral experience across the board,” wrote Konami producer Motoi Okamoto on Playstation.Blog (archive | screenshot). The game is being built with Unreal Engine 5.
Silent Hill Townfall is a new title developed by No Code and Annapurna Interactive. Little information was shared. No Code creative director Jon McKellan said he “respects the source material but also does something a little bit different with it.”
The franchise will also make its return as a film with Return to Silent Hill. The story of Return to Silent Hill will be similar to that of Silent Hill 2, in which a man travels to Silent Hill in search of his long-lost love.
Victor Hadida, one of the creators of the 2006 film Silent Hill, made a proposal that included both the new game and the movie. Hadida, who worked as a producer of the first film, will return to the same role.
Christophe Gans, director of the first Silent Hill film who worked alongside Hadida, will also return as director once again.
Konami is also working on another project with other companies for the making of Silent Hill Ascension. The interactive live event will let fans pick the events of the story.
Genvid, Behaviour, DJ2 Entertainment, and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Games are working on this “massively interactive live event.” For now, fans can visit ascension.com (archive | screenshot).
Konami also announced Silent Hill f, the first new main title in the series. As seen in the trailer, the game takes place in 1960’s Japan and shows a Japanese woman wearing a school uniform. Plants follow her through the streets as she tries to run away. However, toward the end of the trailer, plants surround her body and eventually remove her face. The writer in charge of the story is Ryukishi07, the anonymous creator of the visual novel series When They Cry.
