After announcing its intent in January, Sony has completed its $3.6 billion USD acquisition of Bungie, game developer and publisher known for the creation of Halo and Destiny.
On Twitter, Sony officially welcomed Bungie as the newest first-party studio of the PlayStation family. Bungie also shared its excitement.
Under the PlayStation Studios brand, Bungie is now an independent subsidiary of Sony that will keep its creative independence and multi-platform presence.
Sony will also take advantage of Bungie’s experience in “live game services” to incorporate into 12 upcoming titles within the next three years.
For Sony, it’s a small investment compared to Microsoft’s plans to acquire Activision Blizzard worth $68.7 billion.
