“This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America,” says the tweet. “My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.”

The tweet does not mention any explanation for the delay made by Miyamoto and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
The animated film was originally scheduled for December 21, 2022. Other films such as Avatar 2 and Shazam 2 had already been scheduled for a December 16 release.
