Via social media today, Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games announced Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne remakes are in development.
“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder at Rockstar Games, in a press release. “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”
Remedy Entertainment developed the first two games, while Gathering of Developers published the first one in 2001 and Rockstar the second one in 2003.
The franchise was well-received by critics and is notable for its storyline, “neo-noir atmosphere” and the use of “bullet-time” in action scenes.
Both games will be released “as a single title” for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Remedy will make use of its own Northlight game engine. Rockstar will finance the game production similar to other projects done by Remedy.
Because the project is now in the concept development stage, there was no mention of a release date.
