Sony Interactive Entertainment announced two new PlayStation Plus membership tiers that provide more choices and benefits to users of its subscription service.
The new membership plan starting in June will give users a choice of three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium.
People currently subscribed to PS Plus will be switched to Essential. The slight difference is that only two monthly downloadable games will be offered. In previous years and months, Sony has offer more than just two titles per month. Under Essential, fans will continue to enjoy online multiplayer access, cloud storage for saved games, and discounts.
Under Extra, a library of “up to 400” downloadable PS4 and PS5 games will be available in addition to all the benefits under Essential.
It will be the Premium plan that will offer the cloud/streaming capabilities of PS Now. Currently, PS Now lets users stream hundreds of PS2, PS4 and PS4 titles to PC, PS4 and PS5. It also lets people download PS4 games. Also, PS4 and PS5 consoles won’t be able to play physical copies of PS3 titles. Current PS Now subscribers will not see an increase once it becomes Premium plan.
“PlayStation Now is changing soon and merging with PlayStation Plus. If you purchase PlayStation Now and are subscribed when the service changes, you will be migrated into a new PlayStation Plus membership plan and you will continue to have access to the same benefits from PlayStation Now,” says the PS Now page (archive – USA; archive – Spain).
Titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal, will be available for download for users of Extra and Premium tiers.
