GOG announced today it is giving away the 1995 cult-classic PC title “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” until Christmas.
The adventure/horror/point-and-click game released on October 31, 1995, is based on an original, short story written by Harlan Ellison. His work received the Best Short Story award at the Hugo Awards in 1968.
According to the game’s description, the title “contains disturbing imagery and should not be played by minors.” It’s a disturbing journey that takes the player into the center of the planet where the last surviving humans have been trapped for a hundred and nine years.
In the game, the player will learn more about the darkest secrets of five playable characters (Gorrister, Benny, Ellen, Nimdok, Ted).
The goal: to “defend yourself against AM’s continuous psychological onslaught” by solving riddles of the past.
The writer himself is the voiceover for the supercomputer AM.
During the game, the player will be put to the test when it comes to moral choices to make. The decisions can influence the outcomes of each of the last five characters on Earth.
Though the title is free until December 25 at 9 am EST, it may not be the best one to play for Christmas. If you already have GOG Galaxy installed, the game is easy to claim.
