Retro Games Ltd. revealed today the THEA500 Mini home computer, a revival of the Commodore Amiga 500 (aka A500) first released in 1987.
The home computer also comes with the following: 2-button USB mouse, 8-button USB precision gamepad, HDMI cable, USB-C power cable, and a quick guide.
The original A500 features a 16/32-bit CPU, 512Kb of RAM, and customs chips for sound and video.
The device will be able to emulate the A500, A600 and A1200 computers. Also, it will allow fans to save and resume progress at any time “to help you finish those punishingly difficult classics.”
To add more fun to the device, users will be able to load their own games using a USB stick (with WHDLoad support).
Users can have the option to use a virtual keyboard or a USB one. The hardware will also give users “multiple scaling options and CRT filter” and a “selectable 50Hz or 60Hz screen refresh.”
Currently, only 12 out of the 25 built-in games were revealed: Alien Breed 3D, Another World, ATR: All Terrain Racing, Battle Chess, Cadaver, Kick Off 2, Pinball Dreams, Simon The Sorcerer, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, The Chaos Engine, Worms: The Director’s Cut, Zool: Ninja Of The ”Nth” Dimension.
“In this initial mini version of THEA500®, we have created what we believe gaming fans will love, and will see as the evolution of mini games consoles”, said Paul Andrews, Managing Director at Retro Games.
“Retro Games have developed a truly unique product”, said Debbie Bestwick, CEO at Team 17, “and I’m very excited to have our classic games represented in all their original glory”.
The retro computer will make its debut in early 2022. It will be available for GBP£119.99 / EUR€129.99 / USD$139.99 / AUD$199.99.
