In an exclusive interview with Axios Gaming, EA Sports GM Daryl Holt said the company is working on next-gen basketball titles.
“We’ve got some next-generation HD basketball projects that we have been talking about and designing and working on,” the general manager told Axios. With HD, Holt is referring to games for consoles and/or PC and not to games for mobile devices.
Though it’s the company’s goal to revive the sports franchise, EA has not announced a title to make the return of NBA Live an official one.
When Holt was asked if there is currently a deal with the league, “definitely around mobile,” he responded. He continued, “And then we’re in discussions about what we want to do on the HD front.”
While EA continues with success with its FIFA and NFL titles, among others, its basketball franchise has yet to return.
EA Sports keep growing though. After its acquisition of Codemasters, it announced GRID Legends during its recent EA Play Live presentation.
The last franchise title, NBA Live 19 was released on Sept. 7, 2018.
The list of titles that were cancelled include: NBA Elite 12, NBA Live 13, NBA Live 17, NBA Live 20, and NBA Live 21.
Will there finally be a new NBA Live title for next-gen consoles and PC in the near future?
