Funimation announced yesterday Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train has become the 2nd highest-grossing anime film in US box office history.
On Friday, the film grossed USD $43,956,487, pushing the 1999 film Pokémon 2000: The Movie to third place which earned USD $43,758,684.
The amount is still not enough to catch up to the 1999 US film release of Pokémon: The First Movie, which grossed $85,744,662.
The popularity of Demon Slayer has helped Mugen Train become the highest-grossing anime film of all time in Japan and around the world.
In the US, Mugen Train became the “highest-grossing opening for a foreign language film,” according to Funimation.
