With the purchase of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft now completed, Bethesda Softworks has officially become part of the Xbox family.
This announcement by both companies comes after Microsoft received approvals with no opposition from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the European Union Commission.
Via Xbox Wire, Xbox head Phil Spencer welcomed all eights studios under Bethesda.
“This is an exciting day for Xbox. Today we officially complete the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks. It’s an honor to welcome the eight incredibly talented development studios – Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios – and their passionate global communities to the Xbox family.”
Pete Hines, SVP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda wrote in a blog post Bethesda is not making important changes. However, Bethesda will have “more support and resources than we’ve ever had before.” More Bethesda games will also be coming to Game Pass.
Though not specific, Phil Spencer said “some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players.”
Both Spencer and Hines also honored the life of ZeniMax Media founder Robert A. Altman.
In addition, 2021 is the year Bethesda celebrates its 35th anniversary.
