Colombian singer J Balvin will be one of the next performers invited for an upcoming Pokémon virtual concert.
At the end of the 13-minute “P25 Music Presents: Post Malone Virtual Concert,” an end card mentioned Katy Perry and J Balvin as the next two stars. Perry was already mentioned in January.
According to Rolling Stone, Perry and Balvin are working on original songs for the 14-track album titled “Pokémon 25: The Album.” All songs will be performed by 11 Universal Music Group artists. The album will be released by UMG’s Capitol Records.
Representatives at The Pokémon Company did not make a comment specifically about any Asian artists making an appearance. They did say the album will have originals songs by “some of the buzziest new artists from around the world.”
J Balvin told Rolling Stone he is trying to make his Spanish-language song appeal to both his fans and Pokémon fans. His song should be completed in the next two weeks. “The globalization of our music in Spanish is getting bigger and bigger.”
“We’re gonna come up with a crazy song. It’s going to catch everybody’s ear,” Balvin said. “It’s easy to make a Pokémon song if you just want that fan base, but we’re not close-minded. We want everybody to vibe with Pokémon.”
J Balvin is no stranger to Pokémon. He remembers playing Pokémon games using the Gameboy and watching the anime series.
“I’m trying to find ways to connect to the world, knowing the situation the whole world is going through. We have to connect to the people.”
According to Pokemon.com, “Katy Perry, J Balvin, and one more surprise superstar artist will each release a song inspired by Pokémon. Each song will be joined by a music video and an exclusive merchandise collection celebrating each artist and 25 years of Pokémon!”
