At the company’s investors call today, Activision Blizzard confirmed Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV won’t be released in 2021.
“We expect Blizzard’s net booking to grow, given the momentum in World of Warcraft and the other growth initiatives we have in the business,” said Activision chief financial officer Dennis Durkin. “Our outlook does not include Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2 launching in 2021.”
The postponement of both titles during the announcement brings disappointing news to fans who were hoping to see a release this year. Both titles were first announced during BlizzCon 2019.
In a press release, Activision Blizzard did say it is making “significant progress against our development pipeline for other key intellectual properties, which we expect to fuel further growth in 2022 and beyond.”
At least for smartphones, Diablo Immortal is coming later in 2021.
Also, after the success of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 last year, Activision said it is working on another “remastered” game. This comes after the announcement about Vicarious Visions becoming part of Blizzard.
