Kevin Hart has become the second cast member for the upcoming film adaptation of the Borderlands game franchise. Hart will play the role of Roland and will join Cate Blanchett who was selected to play the role of Lilith.
Eli Roth is directing the Lionsgate adaptation of Gearbox Software’s Borderland.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” Roth said. “Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.”
It’s a different type of role for Kevin Hart who appears mostly in comedy films.
In his last two films, the actor has already played the role of a video game avatar in recent Jumanji movies.
“Kevin has been behind some of the world’s biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world’s best-selling video games. We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story and we couldn’t be in better creative hands,” said Lionsgate president Nathan Kahane.
