According to Superdata, a Nielsen research company, Cyberpunk 2077 had the biggest digital game launch of all time in December 2020.
The information, based on digital revenue and digital units sold, states Cyberpunk 2077 sold more than 10.2 million copies. The estimated amount includes digital copies that were refunded. However, the refunds didn’t hurt sales of the game substantially. Most of the digital copies, 80%, were purchased for PC platforms.
The unsatisfactory performance of the PS4 version led to the removal of Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store. Owners of base PS4 and Xbox One consoles experienced many issues.
Other top grossing titles that saw success in December 2020 were Pokémon GO for mobile devices and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on consoles.
The Nintendo Switch version of Among Us also saw success with 3.2 million copies sold in December 2020. It also became the highest-earning version of Among Us during that month.
Cayo Perico Heist for Grand Theft Auto V as well as Fortnite also saw success last year.
Overall, digital games reached $12.0 billion in 2020, which means a 15% growth from 2019.
