Game creator Tomonobu Itagaki has established his own company, Itagaki Games.
His announcement was published in an edited interview with Bloomberg (with the complete version of the interview posted on his Facebook profile).
Itagaki, known as the creator of Dead or Alive and the modern Ninja Gaiden saga, said he is returning to game development after four years of teaching “to foster juniors.”
In his interview about his experience working for Microsoft, he shared very interesting facts.
He had a great professional relationship with Jonathan “Seamus” Blackley. Blackley used to contact him every week via phone and email during game development. Itagaki was also able to see Halo twice during development when the game was a “super confidential” project.
Towards the end of the lengthy interview, he said: “I know Microsoft is still aggressive. If they reach out to me, it will be an honor for me.”
After 10 years of releasing exclusives titles for Xbox, perhaps his new company may become part of Microsoft. Microsoft has been on a shopping spree. Last year, the Big M purchased ZeniMax Media and its game publisher Bethesda Softworks for USD$7.5B.
