According to Taiwanese daily newspaper DigiTimes, Sony plans to increase shipment of PlayStation 5 units to reach between 16.8 million and 18 million in 2021.
To meet Sony’s goal, AMD (the maker of the main PS5 processor) will receive “additional capacity support” from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for the console’s 7nm CPU.
This comes after Sony has been able to ship 3.4 million PlayStation 5 units, the most-ever for a PlayStation console, during its first four weeks of release, says DigiTimes.
Digitimes reports Sony shipped 3.4 mn PS5 in its first 4 weeks, highest ever for a PS.
They also say 2021 will see 16.8-18mn PS5 shipped after a supply stream ramp-up, with more units reserved for Asia from January.
