Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra announced yesterday the film studio is producing 3 movies and 7 TV shows based on PlayStation franchises.
According to Media Post, Sony is merging its entertainment divisions, which include PlayStation.
“We have no specific plan yet,” said Vinciquerra. “But we have a program within the company called One Sony… You’ll be seeing a lot more integration of Sony companies together.”
Also, Vinciquerra stated Sony Pictures is not planning to release films the same day and date in theaters and streaming platforms.
This statement by the Sony Pictures CEO comes after Warner Bros. announced every one of its films released in 2021 in theaters will also arrive to HBO Max at the same time.
“We are not really changing course to any degree… I don’t think we’ll be in the day and date business,” Vinciquerra told CNBC.
It seems like Sony Pictures does not want to receive complaints from film producers and directors like the ones Warner Bros. received.
Instead, Vinciquerra sees the need for big-budget films need to have a period of exclusivity at cinemas “to make money”. However, he believes a 30-day exclusivity period for theaters may apply to most films.
Going back to video games, the question should now be what films and TV shows are being produced by Sony Pictures.
