In today’s State of Play, Sony showed off the PlayStation 5 UX (user experience) for the very first time.
Via PlayStation.Blog, Hideaki Nishino (Sr. VP of Platform Planning & Management) introduced gamers to the look and feel of the PS5 UX in the post and in the first minute of the video.
Sid Shuman (Senior Director, SIE Content Communications) took over the rest of presentation in the video showing an already-logged account with console options at the bottom of the screen and the last game played ready to be resumed, in this case, Sackboy: A Big Adventure. This is the Control Panel future owners will get use to. Also shown, a list of progress in different stages of the game (under “Activities”), along with recent screenshots and news.
Small but important new features are: estimated time to complete each level, assistance in completing a level with videos (called “Game Help” exclusively for PS Plus members), easier way to chat with friends and share gameplay with them.
Even gameplay videos and screenshots on the PS5 are saved up to 4K quality, while in-game. Certain pictures may have a spoiler warning being a user shares them with friends.
A new layout shows games when a player turns on the console from its power-off state, or when a players wants to switch to another game. Each game has its own hub. From that layout, pressing to the left takes players to Explore, with news and info about the games you own and follow.
Also, a player may want to take advantage of a picture-in-picture window on the bottom left side of the screen to watch a friend play a live game. A voice chat can be requested while playing as well.
