The karaoke-style livestream platform Twitch Sings is coming to a close on January 1, Twitch announced.
The music platform, co-developed with Harmonix, will leave the music community on Twitch behind after the service made its worldwide debut on April 13, 2020 and months of beta testing since late October 2018.
Twitch Sings was another attempt by Twitch to expand and introduce non-gamers into the service.
“As we look to the future, we have decided to invest in broader tools and services that will help support and grow the entire music community on Twitch,” said Twitch via its blog. “Because of this, we have made the difficult decision to close Twitch Sings on January 1, 2021. This community has inspired us with their talent and passion, and we thank you all for what you’ve given to Twitch Sings over the years.”
Though the announcement by Twitch is disappointing for fans, Twitch has made its entire collection of more than 400 songs available for fans to enjoy.
According to the post and the Sings FAQ, Twitch will start removing videos, clips and highlights on December 1. A month later, on January 1, the service will shut down and all remaining on-demand videos will be removed.
