Game developer Psyonix announced today Rocket League will no longer require PlayStation Plus nor Nintendo Switch Online to play online.
As Rocket League becomes a free-to-play game, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch owners won’t need a paid subscription to those services to enjoy the game online.
For fans, Rocket League becomes the next free game on multiple consoles without a subscription. The only exception to this is Microsoft’s as it still needs a subscription to Xbox Live Gold for free-to-play games.
This is just one of the many changes fans of the game will see soon. Players will see later this month Rocket Pass, Competitive Seasons and Tournaments all at the same time. Also included among the many upcoming features are new competitive ranks (like Supersonic Legend), a new tutorial to help new players master the basics, and the new Epic Friends, which will replace Rocket ID.

Psyonix said the next update is coming to all current platforms “around mid September, and the launch of free to play will follow shortly after.”
