Heritage Auctions announced the sale of the most-expensive sealed copy of the 1985 Super Mario Bros. NES video game. This specific sale has a new auction world record after breaking the previous one of another copy of SMB sold at US$100,150.
In an email sent to the media, Heritage Auctions says this highest-graded (9.4/10) sealed Super Mario Bros. game cartridge “took 29 bids to push the final sale price into pop culture history.”
This special cartridge has been sealed since the year of its release, 1985, and has “retained its original hangtab.” What remains a mystery is the name of the person who made the purchase.
The public auction of vintage comics and original comic art by Heritage Auctions took place yesterday in Dallas, Texas.
