The Pokémon Company announced earlier today the upcoming title Pokémon Unite, the franchise’s first multiplayer online battle arena game.
The five-on-five strategic team battle game, being developed for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, lets players “cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon, and defeat opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.”
Fans of games such as League of Legends should recognize the style of gameplay.
TiMi Studios is working on the game and is the developer responsible for Call of Duty: Mobile and Honor of Kings.
Today’s 11-minute Pokémon Presents video started with Tsunekazu Ishihara (TPK President and CEO) mentioning the release of Pokémon Café Mix (available now) before showing a trailer of “the first Pokémon team battle.” Steven Ma, Tencent Sr. VP, spoke about TiMi Studios, “a team with eleven years of game development experience.”
Masaaki Hoshino, Pokémon Unite producer from TPC, introduced the gameplay.
