Helen Chiang, studio head at Mojang Studios, announced via Xbox Wire that more than 200 million copies of Minecraft have been sold to date, with 126 million users enjoying the game every month.
Since its launch in 2009, Minecraft has seen huge success with versions of the game in multiple devices.
The popular game has been playing an important role since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The addition of content specifically made for Minecraft: Education Edition is available in Minecraft under its Education Collection. Since March 24, Mojang has seen over 50 million downloads related to educational content.
Last month, Mojang also partnered with the United Nations Development Programme to share a covid-19 prevention guide. Innovation company AKQA also created a free “BlockDown Simulator” for Minecraft: Java Edition to teach people effective ways to do social distancing.
Also, the studio celebrated Minecraft’s 11th birthday with a new name and logo. Formerly known as Mojang Specifications and Mojang AB, the game developer company now goes by the name of Mojang Studios.
