According to Nintendo’s latest quarterly earnings report, 13.41 million copies of the highly popular social simulation game Animal Crossings: New Horizons have been sold during its first six weeks, with 11.77 million units sold as of the end of March 31.
Despite the arrival of the pandemic coronavirus, ACNH is now “the best start ever for a Nintendo Switch title.” The Nintendo title was launched on March 20, 2020, the same release date for Doom Eternal. In other words, Nintendo was able to sell 11.77 million copies of ACNH in just eleven days.
“Not only have sales of the physical version exceeded our expectations, but demand for the digital version is also high, leading to a digital sales ratio never before seen in Nintendo Switch titles,” says the financial report.
Also, the coronavirus also played a role in the company’s financial results, though it didn’t affect Nintendo as much. “Although the spread of COVID-19 impacted production and shipments in some regions during this fiscal year, the scope was limited. Nintendo Switch has been gaining momentum throughout the year, and has achieved widespread expansion compared to the previous fiscal year.”
