Greninja is the 2020 Pokémon of the Year

With 140,559 online votes, Greninja has been chosen as the 2020 Pokémon of the Year.

According to The Pokémon Company, the water-type Pokémon received the most votes, with Lucario finishing in second place with 102,259 votes. Mimikyu, Charizard and Umbreon complete the top five.

Perhaps his popularity as one of the few playable Pokémon fighters in Smash Ultimate and his role in Pokémon XY may have made Greninja quite a favorite.
