Though the animated series created by Genndy Tartakovsky came back after a long 13-year-absence absence for its fifth and final season in March 2017, fans might have thought they would never see Jack again in a story related to the original cartoon, but that’s what’s happening with the upcoming Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time game.
According to IGN, publisher Adult Swim Games and developer Soleil Game Studio (founded in 2008 in Tokyo) are at the helm, and will be bringing the title to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this Summer 2020. As seen on the teaser trailer, it’s a 3D hack-and-slash game that takes place before Jack’s final battle with Aku. The game’s script has been written by series head writer Darrick Bachman. Fans will be seeing more about the game at PAX East this week.
The directors at Soleil Game Studios have worked previously on Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden titles as members of the original Team Ninja team. At Soleil, they’ve worked on Naruto To Boruto: Shinobi Striker (PS4/XboxOne/Steam), No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again (Switch), Devil’s Third (Wii U) and Devil’s Third Online (PC). According to a photo on its web site, the company recognizes itself as an international game studio “with 20% employees being non-Japanese.”
