Sonic film earns $21 million at Friday box office

After its successful Thursday night preview with $3 million, the Sonic film earned $18 million at the Friday box office finishing up the day with $21 million thus far.

The kid-friendly film is expected to beat Detective Pikachu in the gaming film sub genre.

Estimates suggest Sonic will make $54 millions in three days, or $66.5 millions in four-days.

One reason for the success may be its popularity in gaming and animation, something that may be benefiting Paramount Pictures.
