Taiwanese political candidate Lai Pin-yu (賴品妤) cosplays as Evangelion’s Asuka

Lai Pin-yu (賴品妤), Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislative candidate campaigning for a position at New Taipei City’s 12th electoral district, cosplayed as Asuka Langley Soryu from the classic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion to steal the show earlier this week.

According to NicheGamer, Pin-yu is running for the mentioned seat against Chinese Nationalist Party candidate Lee Yong-ping. She has been making appearances along with DPP Vice Presidential candidate William Lai.

This is not Pin-yu’s first cosplay appearance. As seen on her FB pages [LaiPinYuSouichi and Souichi0302], she has cosplayed as Elsa from Frozen, Sailor Mars from Sailor Moon, and many others.

A post on Thailand’s The Matter says Pin-yu loves to cosplay at various political activities and believes that cosplaying helps her explain the issues she wants to push forward. “If costumes of animated characters increase people’s interest in various issues, I’m ready to do it,” she says.
