Nintendo announced via its financial report that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has sold more than 15.7 million copies, becoming the best-selling fighting game ever in the history of gaming.
With the new record, it has taken the top spot pushing Street Fighter II to second place with 15.5 million copies sold, according to Digital Trends, after the release of seven unique version by Capcom since the original launch of SF2 back in 1991.
However, Smash Ultimate is still not the top game in terms of sales for the Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe holds the top position with 19.01 million copies sold. Ultimate is in second place, followed by Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and others.
When it comes to fighting games, Smash is the most popular fighting game series with 53.03 million copies sold. Other similar series are not far behind, as Tekken, Dragon Ball, Street Fighter and even Mortal Kombat and other franchises have sold “between 45 million to 47 million” each.
