Echo devices featuring Alexa can now speak and understand Spanish and other languages after Amazon today enabled language support for them to be able to speak to the virtual assistant in one or two languages.
With the new support for languages such as Spanish, French and Hindi, businesses and developers can add content for their corresponding audience.
The multilingual mode feature for the virtual assistant announced last month will let users speak a combination of languages, such as English and Spanish for American users, Canadian English and French for Canadian users, and Indian English and Hindi for users in India. Users also have the option of using just their one preferred language.
Alexa users will be able to ask her in Spanish, for example, to play a song by Pitbull or Bad Bunny, to control other devices that work with Alexa, to listen to the news, etc. Basically, Alexa will respond to your questions in the language you use to speak to her.
While the English and Spanish multilingual mode is available today, users in Canada and India will need to wait longer, though the company has not stated when will the support for both languages will make their debut.
