Starting today, Sony Interactive Entertainment is removing the Facebook integration feature from PlayStation 4 consoles.
With the removal of the mention feature, gamers will no longer be allowed to: post screenshots or video of their gameplay, share trophy activity, and use the friend finder functionality, among others things.
As seen on the PlayStation Support page, “users will no longer have the ability to link their Facebook account to their PlayStation Network account.”
Gamers will also have to replace their profile picture if they’ve imported it from the social network.
Perhaps the quickest way is to upload your favorite photo or pick an avatar via the PlayStation app on your smartphone. If not, just do the change with your console.
What’s still a mystery is an explanation for the removal of this feature.
If you really like this feature, there may be hope. According to Kotaku, a spokesperson at Facebook said the following: “We’re working with Sony to finalize an updated contract designed to improve the Facebook integration on PlayStation. While these discussions are in progress, Facebook features will not be available on PlayStation 4. We hope to bring these features back as soon as our teams reach agreement.”
Also, firmware version 7.00 for the PS4 is coming later this week.
