Japanese game studio AlphaDream, known for the development of Mario & Luigi RPG games, has filed for bankruptcy at the Tokyo district court on October 1st.
As a second-party developer formed in 2001, it worked of the creation of games for Nintendo portable devices. Earlier this year, the dev worked on its first mobile game for iOS and Android titled Kedama no Gonjiro: Fit and Run for ForwardWorks.
According to the Japanese Yahoo! News story translated by Gematsu, the studio suffered financially due to high development costs, “sluggish income,” and “financial deficits in recent years.” By the end of March 2018, the company had 465 million yen in debts.
