A fan has remade the classic MS-DOS game Sid Meier’s Civilization using Microsoft Excel. It’s something you may not have expected, but a developer using a spreadsheet software not for its intended purpose to bring back a 1991 game is of course impressive.
The Excel game called s0lly’s [CELL]IVIZATION was made at the OneLoneCoder CODEJAM 2019, which ends today.
The game’s creator, s0lly, wrote on the game’s page at Itch that “the gamejam’s theme is destruction which is apt for this game’s v1.0 iteration, given that the only way to win is to destroy the opposing team.”
The creator adds that “the game is very light on features (basically just build units and attack the opposition), but I will add on additional features – DLC you could call it – if people are keen to see more!”
