As Celeste is coming to an end with the release of Farewell, the developer is saying good-bye to Matt Makes Games and hello to Extremely OK Games.
In the new site under the new company name, Matt Thorson said the newest game studio called Extremely OK Games, EXOK for short, is the new home for all their upcoming games moving forward. Joining him at the new office in Vancouver are Pedro, Amora, and Heidy, members of his team who moved from São Paulo.
Though the company name MMG is being retired, it will still be used to refer it as the publisher or developer of TowerFall and Celeste.
Matt also recognize the work and efforts by his collaborators as the main reason to change the company name. “I started Matt Makes Games when I was working solo in my parents’ basement, and I never thought I’d be working with such an amazing team on games of this scale. On TowerFall, my collaborators took a larger role than I anticipated, and on Celeste, it was obvious that calling ourselves Matt Makes Games had become silly.”
The team is now working on their next game code-named EXOK1.
As for Celeste, the free Farewell DLC marks the conclusion of the game. “Saying goodbye is never easy. Finding the right way to send off the characters and world of Celeste was especially difficult for us, but we’re very excited about what this chapter became.”
With the DLC, fans will be able to play more than 100+ new levels, listen to 40+ minutes of new music, use new mechanics, and more.
In order to play Chapter 9: Farewell, players must complete Chapter 8.
Farewell will be released on all platforms on September 9, 2019, though the Xbox One version might not make it for that day.
