According to Vice News, Nintendo will repair Joy-Con drift free of charge, even if the warranty has expired.
Many fans have shared the many disappointments they have experienced using their Joy-Cons, all of them seen on a thread that was upvoted more than 25,000 times on the Nintendo Switch subreddit.
For many Switch owners, drifting happens when the console thinks the joystick is being used to move a characters or select a choice but it isn’t. Think of a character moving by itself.
As seen on Vice, Nintendo has told its customer service representatives that it will no longer charge Switch owners who need to have their joysticks replaced. People who have paid for Joy-Con repairs will be reimbursed, according to internal documents provided to Vice.
Customers will not be required to provide proof of purchase nor a warranty be needed.
From now on, customer service representatives will have a series of questions to ask customers to troubleshoot the joystick. If the problem isn’t solved after the troubleshoot, Nintendo will repair each Joy-Con for free. A podcast producer at Vice said a representative offered a pre-paid shipping label indicating the Big N will also pay for shipping fees.
“We want to quickly handle these questions to restore consumers smiles,” says part of the documentation.
