At the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, CBS All Access released the first trailer of Star Trek: Picard, featuring former cast members from TNG & Voyager.
At the panel moderated by Deadline.com’s Dominic Patten, Sir Patrick Stewart announced that former cast members, including Jonathan Del Arco, Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner from TNG as well as Jeri Ryan from Voyager, will join the upcoming series to air in early 2020 via CBS All Access in the US, Space Channel in Canada, and the rest of the world via Amazon Prime.
Though Frakes (aka Commander William Riker) did not show up due to a flight delay, Stewart introduced the rest of the cast in attendance after the trailer.
In the trailer, Picard sees the body of Data, played by Brent Spiner, separated in parts and remembers how Data sacrificed his own life for him. Towards the end of the trailer, Picard is playing cards with Data just like in their earlier days during their mission in space.
While it was announced Del Arco will play once again the role of Hugh the Borg in TNG, the presence of Seven of Nine, played by Jeri Ryan, surprised many, because the character appeared originally in Voyager but not in TNG. Even in the trailer, Seven of Nine tells the former captain: “What the hell are you doing out here Picard?” Other stars joining the cast are Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway.
We will all be hearing Picard say “Engage!” again in 2020.
