Alpha Protocol, an action RPG game developed by Obsidian Entertainment, has been removed from Steam at the request of Sega early today.
A message on the game’s Steam page says: “At the request of the publisher, Alpha Protocol is no longer available for sale on Steam.”
Gamers in forums has some speculations about the removal of the game, including one that the game is going to be remastered. Unfortunately, that rumor was just that, a rumor. Sega told gaming news sites, such as PCGamer and Polygon, that the game was removed because Sega lost the publishing rights.
Players who have purchased the game will still be able to download and play the game whenever they want.
Previously, while working on a deal, Sega forced Obsidian to let go of its intellectual property rights to complete the contract and publish the game.
So, the big question is, who has the IP rights for Alpha Protocol? According to a reply Sega sent to TechRaptor.net, the IP rights have returned to Obsidian Entertainment, one of the game developers purchased by Microsoft last year in order to expand the numbers of first-party game developers.
