Since the launch of Switch, many people wondered if Nintendo’s entertaining social network would get support for the console, but today, the company officially announced the end is coming as Nintendo will discontinue Miiverse in Japan later this year.
According to a notice of termination on its Japanese web site, Nintendo said the Miiverse service will come to an end on November 8, 2017 at 3pm Japan time.
The termination will affect access to Miiverse via the Wii U, 3DS and the Web. The error code 115-5004 will appear on 3DS and Wii U.
People will no longer be able to post or view messages, including in games such as New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and other 70+ Wii U games and 20+ 3DS games. As seen in the image below from New Super Mario Bros. U, nothing about Miiverse will appear in games.
The end of Miiverse in other countries has not been announced yet.
Before the end of the social network, Nintendo will offer a service to allow users to download their posts, for a limited time (comments will be excluded). More details about this will be announced at a later date.
