Creator Abhishek Singh showed fans today how the first level of Super Mario Bros. in Augmented Reality looks like using the Microsoft HoloLens. It looks fun, mainly because the stage is shown from from a perspective not seen before.
Using a picture-in-picture view, Singh shows how the game really looks like when using Microsoft’s AR device, seeing the level from a 3D first-person perspective, and how he looks like from a left-to-right 2D sidescrolling perspective -as in the original game-, walking in New York City’s Central Park.
The augmented reality experience was also somewhat dizzy to watch at first as Singh was walking and jumping throughout the level. When reaching the flagpole at the end of the level, the view was kind of unbalanced, ineffective. Still, for most of the video, being inside the first level of Super Mario Bros., a videogame many people knows about, looks fascinating in an unfamiliar way for many, especially when jumping on top of Goombas.
Perhaps Nintendo should take into consideration developing an AR game about Mario.
