Today, Microsoft announced that its racing Forza franchise has reached and surpassed the $1 billion in lifetime retail sales.
For Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios, this milestone has been possible with the more than 2.5 million units in sales of Forza Horizon 3. According to NPD data from November 2012 to January 2017, the latest Forza title has become the best-selling racing franchise in the current generation of consoles.
“Since the beginning, Forza has combined stunning graphics, racing’s leading simulation engine, and an emphasis on fun and accessibility,” stated Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. “With the Forza series, Turn 10 Studios has built the world’s largest racing community. We couldn’t be more proud of their success.”
The franchise seems to be in great hands. Recently, its community has expanded to an average of more than three million players online every month. Also, Microsoft has launched the Forza Racing Championships, the franchise’s eSports league.
