Via a press release sent to the media this evening, Sony announced it has sold more than 6.2 million PS4 consoles during the 2016 holiday season, accumulating more than 53.4 million units of PS4 in sales worldwide since launch. Even with strong console sales, the multi-national company wasn’t specific about sales of the PSVR and the PS4 Pro.
On the software side, Sony said it has sold more than 50.34 million copies of games sold in retail stores globally and via the PlayStation Store as of January 1, 2017. This time, Sony’s most successful title, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, got a cumulative sell through of 8.7+ million copies worldwide as of December 21, 2016.
“We are truly grateful for the tremendous support from our fans and partners, which has helped to make this holiday season one of the best in our history,” stated Andrew House, President and Global CEO at Sony Interactive Entertainment. “We will aim to continue the momentum this year by broadening the PS4 title portfolio, further enriching the revolutionary gaming experiences on PlayStation VR*5 and high quality gaming experience on PlayStation 4 Pro*6, while also expanding network services. We will remain steadfast in making the PS4 the best place to play.”
