Game creator and developer Hideo Kojima will receive the Industry Icon Award at The Game Awards 2016, a year after Kojima was unable to attend.
For the gaming community and fans of Kojima’s work, it is a late victory. As you may remember, Kojima was unable to receive an award at last year’s TGA because Konami, the one company he worked for for decades, prohibited him to attend. The news disappointed lots of fans, including host Geoff Keighley, a longtime friend of Kojima and host of The Game Awards who made the announcement during the event.
In the breakup between Kojima and Konami before the release of Metal Gear Solid 5, Konami removed Kojima’s name from the game’s box art, shut down Kojima Productions Los Angeles, and cancelled a Silent Hills game (in which Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus were working with Kojima).
According to Keighley, Kojima will finally receive an award in person at The Game Awards 2016 on December 1st.
