During today’s Olympic closing ceremonies, Prime Minister Shinzō Abe appears in Rio as Super Mario.
At the handover presentation by Japan, many popular figures from the world of anime and gaming appeared, including Mario, Hello Kitty, Tsubasa Oozora (Captain Tsubasa), Pac-man, and Doraemon.
What people may not have expected was the way Mr. Abe “arrived” at the Maracana Stadium in Rio from Japan, drilling his way as Super Mario from Tokyo to Brazil and popping up through a pipe like Mario does.
Seeing the Japanese Prime Minister dressed as Super Mario may make people wonder how much time does he really spend playing games as Nintendo’s mascot. By the way, where’s Mario’s Olympic friend Sonic the Hedgehog? And where were Goku and Pikachu?
