With the increased popularity of Pokémon Go, some players have been cheating with the use of services to unfairly get an advantage over others, but now game developer Niantic Labs will ban Pokémon Go cheaters permanently starting today.
“After reviewing many reports of in-game cheating, we have started taking action against players taking unfair advantage of and abusing Pokémon GO. Moving forward, we will continue to terminate accounts that show clear signs of cheating,” says the most recent post on the game’s website.
The latest move from Niantic Labs comes after almost one week since the developer started sending cease-and-desist letters to services that were making prohibited use of the game’s API.
Some bots like PokeMobBot have shut down their services due to legal action, while others have decided to follow suit to avoid receiving letters from lawyers representing Niantic Labs and Nintendo.
Gamers who have tried GPS spoofing to simulate their walk at various places without leaving home may have received notices about the termination of their accounts.
If an user’s account has been shut down by error, the player can submit a ban appeal to Niantic Labs.
