Apple told gaming website Polygon today that the extremely popular app Pokémon GO has been downloaded more than any other during its first week of release on Apple mobile devices.
Though Apple did not give specific information about the number of downloads, the company confirmed Pokémon GO has broken the app download record on the Apple App Store.
With the recent release of the app in Japan earlier today and other countries in the last few days, the popularity is bound to increase, and it has even shown up in unexpected places. Earlier today in the US, a reporter got caught playing Pokémon GO at a State Department meeting, and spokesman John Kirby (not related to Nintendo character Kirby) took notice. Saturday Night Live also used the app to make fun of people at the RNC by looking for the rare presence of minorities.
