Fans will soon watch the new anime series by Kouta Hirano (creator of Hellsing) as Funimation acquires international rights to Drifters from NBCU Entertainment Japan. According to the press release, Funimation has obtained “international rights to home entertainment, video on demand and broadcast distribution of the title from NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan.”
Drifters will make its premiere in October via the company’s Funimation Now streaming service in the US, Canada, Ireland, and UK.
“We’re excited to expand our partnership with NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan following last year’s acquisition of ‘Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign,'” said Gen Fukunaga, Funimation founder and CEO. “We are anticipating a great response from fans for Kouta Hirano’s ‘Drifters’ – given the tremendous popularity of his ‘Hellsing’ series.”
In the story, main character Shimazu Toyohisa joins a group of warriors known as Drifters to combat the Ends, a group that is controlling the northern part of the continent and wants to take over the world and kill all Drifters.
